Meet Ginger Howard from Darby, Pennsylvania, who made history as a professional golfer when she was still a teenager. In 2010, at the age of 17, she became the youngest African American to turn professional and win her debut tournament. She won 5 events on the SunCoast Mini Ladies Tour, and was the first African American in history to earn a spot in the Junior Ryder Cup.
She actually began playing golf when she was just 6-years old. She says that her dad would take her and her sister to practice with him, and the interest began from there. She went on to train at the IMG Academy with other young top atheletes in Bradenton, Florida. During her high school years, she began taking golf even more seriously and even made it her goal to turn professional one day.
In 2015, she broke through with conditional LPGA Tour status for the first time in her career when she tied for 43rd place in the final stage of the LPGA Tour Qualifying School in Daytona Beach. She also played in the Symetra Tour, the Triple A level of her sport, for five years.
She was also named one of Golf.com's most "Beautiful Women in Golf."
Ginger, who continues to play golf today, says that the strongest part of her game is her mental. Her younger sister, Robbi, who also excelled during her junior golf career but suffered an injury, has become her full-time caddy.
