Job Description
Physician (Sleep Medicine)

The Minneapolis VA Health Care System is recruiting a sleep physician for a position within the Section of Pulmonary, Critical Care and Sleep Medicine. The growing Sleep Medicine program seeks a third board certified/board eligible sleep physician to join a growing clinical and academic program. The successful candidate should have experience supervising trainees such as fellows, residents and medical students. Experience in clinical or translational research in sleep medicine will be favorably considered, but is not required. A non-tenured academic appointment at the University affiliate will be commensurate with the candidate's qualifications, but this position is a full-time (8/8ths) VA position. This position requires that 80% to 100% of clinical effort be in Sleep Medicine; a maximum of 20% of clinical effort could potentially be allocated to a different specialty (e.g. Pulmonary Medicine, Critical Care, General Medicine, Psychiatry, Neurology, Anesthesia, Otolaryngology).

Duties and responsibilities will include:

* Provide outpatient, inpatient, and tele-health consultative services in comprehensive Sleep Medicine.

* Interpret data from polysomnograms, portable sleep studies, overnight oximetry, actigraphy, and other sleep diagnostic procedures.

* Supervise and direct personnel within the Sleep Center.

* Initiate and evaluate innovative clinical processes and programs in Sleep Medicine and TeleHealth.

* Participate in quality improvement initiatives.

* Supervise and provide didactic education to trainees, including medical students, residents and fellows.

* Support and participate in sleep research within the institution.

Basic Requirements:
  • United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
  • Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in medicine or osteopathic medicine. The degree must have been obtained from one of the schools approved by the Department of Veterans Affairs for the year in which the course of study was completed.
  • Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia.
  • Completion of residency training, or its equivalent, approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certification.
  • Proficiency in spoken and written English.

Preferred Experience: Board Eligible/Certified in Sleep Medicine
