Job Description
Social Worker, Polytrauma

You will serve as the Polytrauma Program Coordinator for Social Work Service at the Louisville VA. You will be administratively responsible for providing coordination of services and treatment to patients in this major specialty, Polytrauma Traumatic Brain Injury. You will manage the daily operation of the program, and direct patient care services in the program area. You will develop policies and procedures for program operation and prepare reports and statistics for the Medical Center, VISN, and Central Office (CO). You will be responsible for the program's budget and various control points assigned to the program with the assigned areas. You will manage and control the use of data related to these programs regarding day to day functioning and program evaluation. In conjunction with the Service Chief/Assistant Service Chief, plans, organizes and directs administrative, operational, patient and personnel activities for the service.

Work Schedule: Monday-Friday, 8:00 am - 4:30 pm with occasional evening

Basic Requirements:-U.S. citizenship. Non-citizens may be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
-Education. Have a master's degree in social work from a school of social work fully accredited by the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE). Graduates of schools of social work that are in candidacy status do not meet this requirement until the school of social work is fully accredited. A doctoral degree in social work may not be substituted for the master's degree in social work.
-Licensure. Must be licensed or certified at the advanced practice level and must be able to provide supervision for subordinate staff to qualify for licensure i.e (LCSWLicensed Clinical Social Worker)
-English Language Proficiency. Social Workers must be proficient in spoken and written English in accordance with VA Handbook 5005, Part II, Chapter 3, Section A, paragraph 3j.Preferred Experience: Experience with program coordination and/or TBI propulation

Grade Determinations:The Senior Social Worker at the GS-12 grade are independent practitioners. They may be the sole practitioner in this specialty at the facility and typically provide direct patient care services in the program area. They manage the daily operation of the program, develop policies, and procedures for program operation, and prepare reports and statistics for facility, VISN, and national use.
Demonstrated Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: In addition to meeting the requirements at the GS-12 level, you must also demonstrate the following Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
1. In-depth knowledge of the program coordinated, and demonstrated knowledge and ability to write policies, procedures, and/or practice guidelines for the program.
2. Knowledge and skill in management/administration, which includes supervision, consultation, negotiation, and monitoring.
3. Ability to supervise multidisciplinary staff assigned to the program.
4. Ability to organize work, set priorities, meet multiple deadlines, and evaluate assigned program area(s).
5. Ability to provide training, orientation, consultation and guidance within clinical specialization of practice.

The full performance level of this vacancy is GS-12.

Physical Requirements: This position requires visual acuity, keen hearing, clear distinctive speech, and manual dexterity. This position requires potentially long periods of continued walking, standing, stooping, sitting, bending, pulling, and pushing.
