Job Description
Nurse Practitioner (Wound Care)
  • Diagnosing and treating acute and chronic health care problems.
  • Wound care expert.
  • Organize and implement wound care on inpatient and outpatient clinics.
  • Perform specialized procedures, such as removal of devitalized tissue, removal of sutures, simple incision and drainage.
  • Initiates and coordinates treatment plans for wound care patients.

Work Schedule: Monday - Friday, 8:00am - 4:30pm

BASIC REQUIREMENTS:
Candidates must meet all the requirements identified in the VA Handbook 5005, Part II, Appendix G6, Nurse Practitioner Qualification Standards. http://vaww1.va.gov/ohrm/HRLibrary/Dir-Policy.htm

Nurse Practitioner Qualifications:

1. Citizen of the United States.

2. Nurse Practitioners appointed to direct patient care positions must be proficient in spoken and written English as required by 38 U.S.C. 7402(d) and 7407(d).

3. Graduate of a school of professional nursing approved by the appropriate State agency, and accredited by one of the following accrediting bodies at the time the program was completed by the applicant. 1) The Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN), 2) The Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE), an accrediting arm of the American Association of College of Nursing (AACN). The CCNE accredits bachelors and masters degree programs. (b) [The completion of coursework equivalent to a nursing degree in a MSN Bridge Program that qualifies for professional nursing registration constitutes the completion of an approved course of study of professional nursing. In these programs, students are given a certificate of professional nursing to sit for the NCLEX and should submit this certification to VA prior to appointment.

4. A nurse practitioner must be licensed or otherwise recognized as a nurse practitioner in a State, possess a master's degree from a program accredited by the ACEN or CCNE, and maintain full and current certification as a nurse practitioner from the American Nurses Association or another nationally recognized certifying body. The certification must be in Wound Care from American Nurses Association (ANA) to which the individual is being appointed or selected.



Physical Requirements: Heavy Lifting (45 lbs and over); Heavy Carrying (45 lbs and over); Straight Pulling (6 hours); Pushing (6-10 hours); Reaching above shoulder; Use of fingers; Both hands required; Walking (6-10 hours); Standing (6-10 hours); Kneeling (1 hour); Repeated bending (4 hours); Both legs required; Ability for rapid mental and muscular coordination simultaneously; Near vision correctable at 13" to 16"; Far vision correctable in one eye to 20/20 and to 20/40 in the other; Ability to distinguish shades of colors; Hearing (aid permitted)
