Education Liaison Specialist

The Education Liaison Specialist at St Petersburg, FL is an out-based position of Atlanta Regional Office (RO). The position is part of the South Region Education Service Unit (ESU) of the Department of Veterans Affairs.

As a Education Liaison Specialist for the Veteran Benefits Administration you will:

  • Review State Approving Agency (SAA) school and training facility approvals; and accept, resolve problems, or reject the approval in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Provide technical assistance to local staff and SAA staff.
  • Represent VA in all matters requiring a liaison between the station and the SAA and makes all referrals to the SAA.
  • Assist the Education Liaison Representative with special programs and projects.
  • Prepare and give presentations for officials of education institutions and establishments.
  • Ensure appropriate referrals and action is taken by other divisions, state agencies, and other federal agencies in accordance with compliance survey findings.
  • Prepare and review technical reports and correspondence with education institutions, state agencies, and federal agencies as required by law.
  • Prepare preliminary paperwork as needed for the Education Compliance Survey Specialist to conduct surveys.
Work Schedule Regular office hours Monday-Friday; 8:00am - 4:30pm.

Specialized Experience:
GS-09: One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-07 level within federal service.
Specialized experience is: experience interpreting and explaining laws, regulations, and guidelines related to education benefits; knowledge of contracting procedures and practices related to education services; experience performing compliance audits/surveys; and experience performing in a liaison role to education institutions/providers.
Such experience is to be substantive and relevant and may have been gained in positions working for a Federal, State, or Local government agency, social services non-governmental agency, or an educational institution. Your resume must describe your experience specific to the above specialized experience to qualify.

Applicants may substitute education for the experience required.
GS-09: Two years (equivalent to 36 semester credit hours) of progressively higher level graduate education, leading to a Master's Degree or equivalent (such as J.D.).
It is the applicant's responsibility to provide documentation or proof that he or she has met the applicable educational requirements for substitution. Applications submitted without the required supporting documents will not be accepted. An unofficial transcript; statement from the institution's registrar, dean, or other appropriate official; or equivalent documentation is acceptable at the time of application. Physical Requirements: The work is sedentary. Typically the employee may sit comfortably to do the work. However, there may be some walking, standing, bending or carrying of light items such as papers and books. No special physical demands are required to perform the work. Transcripts
