KIPP San Antonio is a growing network of schools: KIPP Aspire Academy (5-8), founded in 2003, KIPP University Prep (9-12), 2009, KIPP Camino Academy (5-8), 2010, KIPP Un Mundo Dual Language Academy (K-4), 2012, KIPP Esperanza Dual Language Academy (K-2), 2014, and KIPP Poder Middle School (5-6), 2015. Building on the success of our local KIPP schools as well as the KIPP national network of schools, we are currently embarking on an aggressive growth plan that will result in a five-fold increase in the number of students we serve. As we grow, KIPP San Antonio Public Schools will continue to drive dramatic change in urban education and prove what is possible through our students’ remarkable success. When we complete our growth, we will double the number of college graduates from San Antonio’s most underserved neighborhoods. The Opportunity

Every member of the Team & Family at KIPP San Antonio plays a critical role in ensuring our students are on the path to get to and through college. Our educators are passionate advocates for their students and their families, working relentlessly to ensure that our students have access to doors to opportunity. As a lead teacher, our educators deliver exceptional instruction and assess student growth, are committed to constant learning and proactively provide academic and cultural support.


  • Lead instruction (push-in and pull-out) for English Language Learners in all grade levels.
  • Collaborate with classroom teachers to support students through a variety of strategies, including co-teaching and pushing into classrooms.
  • Utilize data to inform instruction, group students, and target skills and strategies for instruction.
  • Create a communication system to inform teachers of the work students are doing during ESL intervention.
  • Plan units and lessons to meet the needs of individual students and groups.
  • Facilitate parent meetings on services and strategies to support their children’s learning.
  • Coordinate and administer English Language assessments, and use the results to inform curriculum development and classroom instruction.
  • Serve as campus testing coordinator for TELPAS testing; assist the STAAR testing coordinator with accommodations/information about ELL students
  • Work collaboratively with teachers on best ways to differentiate and accommodate ELL students
  • Assist grade teams and teachers with helpful resources to improve instruction
  • Create a comprehensive “services” schedule that reflects all students needing services, as well as frequency of services and accommodations
  • Ensure compliance with all regulatory ESL mandates including identification of students, LPACs, assessments, record-keeping, dismissals, refusals of service, etc.
  • Other duties as assigned.


•Establishes and maintains cooperative working relationships with students and families based on trust and respect.
•Conducts home visits to nurture strong relationships with students and parents.
•Communicates high expectations for behavior by teaching, practicing, and reinforcing rules and consequences so that students are focused on working hard and bring nice.
•Approaches practice with a sense of urgency maximizing every minute.

•Proactively communicates with families about academic progress and behavior goals, with attention to social development.
•Maintains accurate and up-to-date records.

•Collaborates with content and grade-level teams to promote an environment of critical thinking and academic rigor.
•Consistently reflects on instructional practices through formal and informal methods, and works relentlessly to meet individual professional development goals.
•Meets professional obligations through efficient work habits such as meeting deadlines and honoring schedules.
•Assumes responsibility for student achievement.
•Embraces feedback and constructive criticism in the spirit of constant improvement.
•Actively participates in professional development, faculty meetings before or after school, as well as grade level, department, and trip meetings.

•Coordinates and leads field lessons both in and out of state to extend student learning.
•Assists with both student and staff recruitment.
•Sponsors and maintains quality in a student club, extracurricular activities or organizations.
•Be available by school provided cell phone for homework help and emergencies outside of regular school hours.
•Participate in the daily functioning of the school – morning, lunch, and afternoon supervisory duties.
•Participates actively in developing individualized learning plans for students, parent meetings and conferences.

Working Conditions

  1. Mental Demands: Ability to communicate effectively (verbal and written), interpret policies and procedures, and maintain emotional control under stress. Above average degree of concentration, interpretation, understanding verbal instructions, analyzing, differentiating, reading, coordinating, compiling, computing, instructing, emotional control, memorizing, organizational skills, and the ability to work with individuals from diverse backgrounds.


  1. Physical Demands/Environmental Factors: Frequent standing, stooping, bending, pushing and pulling, some heavy lifting. Biological exposure to bacteria and communicable diseases. Lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Frequently required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms. Occasionally sit, climb, or balance, taste or smell; lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

Compensation and Benefits

Salary is based on years of experience, degree of education, and level of expertise. A competitive benefits package is also offered.
