Job Description
Biomedical Equipment Support Specialist

This position serves as a Biomedical Equipment Support Specialist within the Biomed Section of Engineering Service at the Amarillo VA Health Care System in Amarillo, TX. Duties and responsibilities of this position will include (but are not limited to):

  • Responsible for the comprehensive technical support and management of biomedical systems.
  • Works in all patient care areas throughout the health care system.
  • Instructs system operators in correct system usage and operator level equipment preventive maintenance.
  • Participates in electrical safety education both formal and informal levels.
  • Exercises initiative, creativity, and judgment to provide a satisfactory resolution of problems.
Work Schedule: Monday through Friday, 8:00am to 4:30pm

To qualify for this position, you must have at least one of the following qualifications:

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE:
One (1) year of specialized experience that equipped with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the work of the Biomedical Equipment Support Specialist position. To be creditable, this experience must have been equivalent to the next lower grade level in Federal service. Qualifying specialized experience includes: Working experience interpreting, understanding and applying policies, directives, guidance and regulatory codes, including; VA, OSHA, EPA, JTC and NFPA; Experience and theoretical understanding pertaining to the selection, installation, maintenance, repair and disposition of biomedical and non-medical electronic systems and equipment; Experience implementing networked biomedical equipment; Configuring equipment's IP, WLAN, VLAN, Firewalls, DICOM, Ports, etc. Note: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Applicants wishing to receive credit for such experience must indicate clearly the nature of their duties and responsibilities in each position and the number of hours a week spent in such employment.

SUBSTITUTION OF EDUCATION for EXPERIENCE:

A Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree or 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree or LL.M., if related, which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of this position. (Transcripts required.)

COMBINING EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE:

A combination of successfully completed graduate education and experience may be used to meet total qualification requirements. (Transcripts required.)
