Job Description
Computer Assistant

The Southern Arizona VA Health Care System (SAVAHCS) is currently recruiting one (1) Computer Assistant (Automated Data Processing Application Coordinator (ADPAC)) for the Mental Health Care Line, which is located in Tucson, AZ. The incumbent is a vital member of the Mental Health Care Line and as the ADPAC, has overall responsibility for automated systems and software related to the evaluation and use of complex data sets which impact the delivery of health care services. Provides administrative support to the Chief, Mental Health Care Line under direct supervision of the Administrative Officer (AO). Duties include but are not limited to the following:

  • Extracts and collects data in the preparation of reports.
  • Performs work involving the collection, compilation, and/or tracking of data and statistical information in support of an organization's program operation.
  • Performs database file searches.
  • Uses software applications to draw information from various automated systems to prepare/assist in preparation of reports.
  • Operates computer systems and/or performs data processing support and service functions requiring knowledge of data processing sequences, procedures, user and/or programming languages, computer requirements, and/or techniques associated with the development and design of systems.
  • Performs work related to the resolution of user hardware, software application, and/or system problems. Provides basic computer training on data processing procedures and practices used in the organization.
  • Maintains manuals, reference books, and/or software instructions associated with the programs and systems used in the organization.
  • Maintains and updates software program and computer manuals, reference books, and/or equipment operation handbooks.
  • The incumbent, will serve as Education (TMS) Coordinator, support to Equipment Inventory, entering electronic work orders and ordering electronic supplies for the Mental Health Care Line.
  • Assists MH management in special projects.
  • Responsible for work orders and electronic (PIN) equipment requests.
  • Responsible for the administration of PIV badges to staff and resetting PIV encryption passwords.

Time-In-Grade Requirement: Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement. For a GS-07 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-06. The grade may have been in any occupation, but must have been held in the Federal service. An SF-50 that shows your time-in-grade eligibility must be submitted with your application materials. Note: Time-In-Grade requirements also apply to former Federal employees applying for reinstatement as well as current employees applying for Veterans Employment Opportunities Act of 1998 (VEOA) appointment.

You may qualify based on your experience and/or education as described below:

  • Specialized Experience: You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS-06 in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Examples of specialized experience should include, but are not limited to: Troubleshooting to the resolution of user hardware, software application, and/or Computer Problems; providing basic Computer Training, performing data processing support, and training software instructions for system users. NOTE: Evidence of experience, must be supported by detailed documentation of duties performed in positions held. Please provide such documentation on your application or resume. Also please provide work experience information such as hours per week and starting/ending dates of employment (month and year format) to establish one (1) full year of experience.

You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Note: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Applicants wishing to receive credit for such experience must indicate clearly the nature of their duties and responsibilities in each position and the number of hours a week spent in such employment.Physical Requirements: The work is sedentary. Typically, the employee site comfortably to do the work. However, there may be some walking; standing; bending; carrying of light items such as papers, books, small parts; or driving an automobile, etc. No special physical demands are required to perform the work.
