Nurse Practitioner (Dermatology)

DUTIES:

The Nurse Practitioner for this position will be assigned to theMedicine & Inpatient Care (Dermatology)Health Care Group at the VA Long Beach Healthcare System in Long Beach, California TheDermatologyNurse Practitioner works as a member of a multi-disciplinary health care team, collaborating with other members of the team to provide medical care to veterans. The Nurse Practitioner is expected to demonstrate advanced competencies and skills in assessing the physical and psychosocial status of men and women patients, play an active role in the multidisciplinary Patient Aligned Care Teams, promote preventive health measures, manage the acute and chronic conditions of his/her assigned panel of patients and those patients assigned to other team members when circumstances require. Provides comprehensive assessment, diagnostic work-up and clinic intervention, including health history, physical examination, and patient education to veterans; outpatients include both rescheduled and unscheduled veterans. . Initiate appropriate referrals and consultation to other clinical services. Order and evaluate diagnostic tests as appropriate, recommend treatment and/or referral. Establish and coordinate a plan of care related to patients identified problems. Validate the effectiveness of previously implemented medical treatment. Initiate, evaluate, and change orders for medications. Include patient and family in planning care and establishing realistic measurable goals for health maintenance/improvement. Record/document health appraisal information, clinical assessments, treatment decisions, plan of care, ongoing management and therapeutic outcomes, order medications, diagnostic tests and referral consultations where needed for every patient encounter; recording will be accomplished using the electronic comprehensive patient record system (CPRS), and will be completed on the day of the encounter.Follow Performance Measure guidelines including completion of clinical reminders in CPRS; access and timeliness standards; prescription order entry, National VA Formula requirements and Customer Services standards. Work efficiently with patients, families, members of the multi-disciplinary team, and other VALBHS staff, demonstrates flexibility in responding to clinic demands, adhere to personal and professional obligations and responsible, practice and ethical standards, and sustain a work environment that is harmonious and customer service oriented. TheSCI/D Nurse Practitioner, at all times, conducts him/herself in a professional manner treating patients, visitors and staff in a courteous manner.TheSCI/D Nurse Practitioner shall participate in the continuous quality improvement program. The SCI/D Nurse Practitioner is expected to be familiar with and comply with all national standards utilized at this medical treatment facility, including VA Performance Measures and Monitors, Joint Commission, and NCQA standards

Work Schedule:We are a 24/7 medical center with various tours of duty and incumbent may be required to work off tours, nights, holidays and/or weekends to meet the mission of caring for the Veterans

Requirements: A nurse practitioner must be licensed or otherwise recognized as a nurse practitioner in a State, possess a master's degree from a program accredited by the NLNAC or CCNE, and maintain full and current certification as a nurse practitioner from the American Nurses Association or another nationally recognized certifying body. [The certification must be in the specialty to which the individual is being appointed or selected.]. Must possess a prescribing or furnished certificate as required by state of license. Must possess an active DEA certificate to prescribe Class 2-5 controlled.

Citizen of the United States. Graduate of a school of professional nursing approved by the appropriate State-accrediting agency and accredited by one of the following accrediting bodies at the time the program was completed by the applicant: The National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission (NLNAC) http://www.nlnac.org/Forms/directory_search.htmor The Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE). http://www.aacn.nche.edu/accreditation/accprogs.htm Current, full, active, and unrestricted registration as a graduate professional nurse in a State, Territory or Commonwealth (i.e., Puerto Rico) of the United States, or the District of Columbia. In cases of graduates of foreign schools of professional nursing, possession of current, full, active and unrestricted registration will meet the requirement of graduation from an approved school of professional nursing. Must be proficient in spoken and written English.

Applicant's education and length of nursing practice (experience) will be considered by a Nurse Professional Standards Board in determining the grade and salary of the applicant selected. Experience as a RN will be evaluated to determine if the experience is of an acceptable level of quality with regard to the following four dimensions of nursing: Practice, Professional Development, Collaboration and Scientific Inquiry. Each dimension of practice has criteria that demonstrate essential core competencies for VHA Nursing Personnel. The criteria are as follows: Practice: practice, ethics and resource utilization, Professional Development: performance, education/career development, Collaboration: collaboration, collegiality, Scientific Inquiry: quality of care, research. Education/Experience Requirements:
