KIPP San Diego currently operates one school: KIPP Adelante Preparatory Academy serves as the flagship for the region as it develops in the coming years to ensure that low income families in San Diego have high quality options for school.  The mission of KIPP Adelante Preparatory Academy is to ensure that our students develop the academic skills, intellectual habits, and character traits needed to succeed in top quality high schools, colleges, and the competitive world beyond. We will be a proof-point that schools with high concentrations of students that live in low-income communities are actually buildings filled with innovative, creative, engaged, passionate and valuable contributors to our community.  Through longer school days and an extended school year with extraordinarily dedicated and passionate teachers, our students improve and succeed. 95% of KIPP Adelante's alumni have graduated from high school. 60% of those have gone on to college. We are focused on raising that number.   

KIPP Adelante is in the midst of a rebirth.  With a deep belief that students’ social-emotional health is foundational to success in life, we are committed to Restorative Practices and Advisory Circles.  Our instructional focus is one that puts the students’ in the center and the heavy lifting on them, and is grounded in Data-Driven Instruction (DDI) practices. Those with experience with Project Based Learning and authentic work products are strongly encouraged to apply.  Success in using data to monitor student’s proficiency in basic skills in order to access and benefit from real-world learning experiences is essential.

 

ROLE OVERVIEW:

Our middle school teachers are exceptional leaders who develop an excellent education program from vision and planning all the way to execution. They are leaders who are aligned with the vision of KIPP San Diego and KIPP Adelante, and thrive in a fast-paced and high-expectation environment. Our teachers ensure that our students continue on a path to and through college by prioritizing, but not limited to, the following: Data-Driven Instruction Practices, Restorative Culture, and Clear and Explicit Expectations. KIPP San Diego’s teachers have a track record of instructional excellence and are willing to continuously go above and beyond for students, putting kids first in their decisions and interactions. Teachers are responsible for delivering effective, rigorous instruction in their content areas that produces unmatched results and student understanding. They are expected to show skill in remaining focused when faced with unexpected challenges and have innate problem-solving mindsets. Those with experience with Project Based Learning and authentic work products are strongly encouraged to apply. Experienced success in using data to monitor student’s proficiency in basic skills in order to access and benefit from real-world learning experiences is essential. Teachers will perform additional duties and do whatever it takes for all KIPP students to learn and succeed.

Our middle school teachers are full-time, salaried, exempt, and work on a School-Year calendar, directly reporting to the School Leader.

 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Develop measurable instructional goals and systems to track progress for all scholars relative to academic goals.

  • Create, utilize and revise (with data) upon long-term plans, unit plans, unit assessments, and weekly lesson plans in instructional practice.

  • Plan, prepare, and deliver appropriate lessons using a variety of presentation methods in order to keep scholars engaged and meet their individual needs.

  • Use multiple forms of data to inform daily instructional decisions—including targeted intervention and acceleration

  • Create and maintain a positive classroom environment that promotes good behavior and adheres to our management system.

  • Build and maintain positive relationships with parents by communicating frequently to inform them of scholar academic and personal growth.

  • Maintain records of scholars' progress and development; as well as steps taken to accelerate their development.

  • Research and apply research-based practices to content area.

  • Plan for and participate in extracurricular activities designed as opportunities to support scholars academic and character development.

  • Seek regular observation and instructional feedback for continued growth

  • Actively participate in regular professional development.

  • Other activities assigned at the School Leader's discretion to achieve our mission.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree, required

  • Two years or more of teaching experience, required

    • At least two years’ experience as an educator in middle school classrooms in a traditionally underserved community, highly preferred

  • Demonstrated strong achievement results and documented growth with scholars on formative assessments

  • Meet the State of California’s qualifications for highly qualified teacher, required

  • State of California teaching certification or equivalent

    • Possession of either BCLAD or CLAD certification, highly preferred

  • Spanish-speaking proficiency, not required but preferred

  • Bilingual and/or ESL certified, not required but preferred

  • Excellent organizational, planning, and implementation skills

  • Ability to manage the ambiguity and multiple priorities inherent in the multi-faceted learning environment

  • Ability to communicate and interact effectively with multiple constituencies while maintaining professionalism at all times

  • Detail-oriented team player willing to roll up sleeves and get the job done

  • Unquestioned integrity and commitment to KIPP: Adelante, the KIPP: San Diego region and our students

WORK SCHEDULE:

  • Weekday hours can range from 7:45 am - 4:45 pm, depending on grade level.

  • This position will operate on the KIPP Adelante academic calendar.

 

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS:

Compensation is competitive and will commensurate with experience. A comprehensive benefits package is included as part of the compensation, including:

  • Healthcare (health, vision, and dental) provided at 100% for employees and 50% for child dependents

ABOUT KIPP

KIPP, the Knowledge Is Power Program, is a national network of free, open-enrollment, college-preparatory public charter schools with a track record of preparing students in underserved communities for success in college and in life.  There are currently 209 KIPP schools in 20 states and the District of Columbia serving more than 88,000 students. More than 88 percent of our students are from low-income families and eligible for the federal free or reduced-price meals program, and 95 percent are African American or Latino. Nationally, more than 93 percent of KIPP middle school students have graduated high school, and more than 80 percent of KIPP alumni have gone on to college. There are 97 KIPP middle schools (grades 5-8), 85 elementary schools (grades Pre-K-4), and 27 high schools (grades 9-12).
