Job Description
Registered Nurse (Informatics Nurse/BCMA Coordinator)

The West Texas VA Health Care System is currently accepting applications for the position of an Informatics Registered Nurse. The Informatics Nurse/BCMA Coordinator is registered nurse who applies the principles of informatics in the process
of data acquisition, management, analysis, and reporting relevant information in support of the mission of the health
care system. He/she keeps abreast of changes in VA Informatics Systems (CPRS, BCMA, Hi2, VANOD, etc.) as
applies to Nursing Services and prepares for/implements local changes as needed. The Informatics Nurse/BCMA
Coordinator collaborates with Ol&T, Health Information Services, Analytics, and other hospital services as needed to
implement software and deploy hardware in support of patient care services. Serves as a resource for data analysis
and serves as the nursing service ADPAC.The Informatics Nurse/BCMA Coordinator possesses an understanding of clin ical treatment modalities, organization and administration of the VA healthcare delivery systems, educational principles, clinical information systems, accreditation and regulatory standards, and program development. Assures that all managers of nursing staff are supported in the use of information technology, as well as educated and supported with tools. Responsible for menu
development, periodic reviews of keys and menus, recurring reports as assigned. Rounds frequently to work with staff at the unit-level on computer and BCMA issues. Serves as the BCMA Coordinator and the Essentris Coordinator.Computer literacy requirements include knowledge and experience with multiple computer software packages, including but not limited to data bases, spreadsheets, and presentation programs. Knowledge of computer hardware sufficient to provide instruction and resolution of issues. Skilled in the use of BCMA; CPRS; VISTA/DHCP/IMED Consent.

Work schedule: 8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday and may vary depending on the hiring facility.

Physical standards - All applicants must meet the physical standards for the position. A physical examination prior to employment may be required.
Registration - Current, full, active and unrestricted registration as a graduate professional nurse in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth (i.e., Puerto Rico) of the U.S. or in the District of Columbia. The RN must maintain a current, full active and unrestricted registration to continue employment with the VA
Educational requirements can be met as follows:
(1) Graduate of a school of professional nursing approved by the appropriate State agency, and accredited by one of the following accrediting bodies at the time the program was completed: a) The National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission (NLNAC); or b) The Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE). OR
(2) The completion of coursework equivalent to a nursing degree in a MSN Bridge Program that qualifies for professional nursing registration constitutes the completion of an approved course of study of professional nursing. OR
(3) In cases of graduates of foreign schools of professional nursing, possession of current, full, active, and unrestricted registration, will meet the requirement of graduation from an approved school of professional nursing.
The following requirements are preferred for this position:

A BSN with approximately 2-3 years of experience, or ADN or Diploma in Nursing and a bachelors degree in a related field and approximately 2-3 years experience or a Master's degree in nursing or related field with a BSN and approximately 2-3 years experience, or a Doctoral degree in nursing or meets basic requirements for appointment and has doctoral degree in a related field with no experience.

GRADE DETERMINATIONS: Experience as a RN will be evaluated to determine if the experience is of an acceptable level of quality with regard to the following four dimensions of nursing: Practice, Professional Development, Collaboration and Scientific Inquiry. Each dimension of practice has criteria that demonstrate essential core competencies for VHA Nursing Personnel.

The criteria are as follows:

Practice: Practice, ethics and resource utilization;

Professional Development: Performance, education/career development;

Collaboration: Collaboration, collegiality; scientific inquiry; quality of care, research.

Nurse I, Level 1 - Associate Degree or Diploma in Nursing with no experience.

Nurse I, Level II - ADN or Diploma in Nursing or ADN or Diploma in Nursing and Bachelors degree in a related field or Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN).

Nurse I, Level III - An ADN or Diploma in Nursing and approximately 2-3 years of experience, or an ADN or Diploma in Nursing and a bachelors degree in a related filed and approximately 2-3 years of experience; or a BSN with approximately 2-3 years of experience, or a Master's degree in nursing (MSN) or related field with a BSN and no experience.

Nurse II - A BSN with approximately 2-3 years of experience, or ADN or Diploma in Nursing and a bachelors degree in a related field and approximately 2-3 years experience or a Master's degree in nursing or related field with a BSN and approximately 2-3 years experience, or a Doctoral degree in nursing or meets basic requirements for appointment and has doctoral degree in a related field with no experience.

Nurse III - Master's degree in nursing or related field with BSN and approximately 2-3 years experience or Doctoral degree in nursing or related field and approximately 2-3 years experience.
SALARY: Applicant's education and experience will be reviewed by a Professional Standards Board in determining the grade and salary of the applicant selected. The recommended salary may be at any point in the range listed for this vacancy.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: This position requires visual acuity, keen hearing, clear distinctive speech, and manual dexterity. This position requires potentially long periods of continued walking, standing, stooping, sitting, bending, pulling and pushing. Transferring patients and objects may be required. The incumbent may be exposed to infected patients and contaminated material and maybe required to don protective clothing in isolation situations or operative/invasive procedures.

DESIGNATED DRUG-TESTING POSITION: Applicants tentatively selected for VA employment in a testing designated position are subject to urinalysis to screen for illegal drug use prior to appointment.
