Administrative Support Assistant (HAS)

This position is full time permanent in Health Administration Service (HAS) at the West Texas VA Health Care System, Big Spring, Texas. The incumbent provides program support assistance to the Chief, HAS. Incumbent is responsible for maintaining a facility forms control log and assigning form numbers as needed, adhering to HIPPA guidelines, and serves as HAS service timekeeper. Incumbent assists HAS staff members with travel requests and tracks the HAS Service Travel/Training budget. Incumbent tracks mandatory training for the service. Incumbent must work fluently with Excel and Word. Incumbent develops and publishes meeting minutes. Incumbent is responsible for State Veterans Home Payment processing and maintaining a record of the State Veterans Home census. Other clerical duties as assigned.

Work Schedule: Typical work schedule is Monday through Friday, 8:00am to 4:30pm. However position may require work beyond this schedule and travel.

Physical Requirements: Work is principally sedentary, however some slight physical effort maybe necessary.

Time-in-grade: Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements.

Minimum Requirements for the GS-5: Candidates must have one full year of specialized experience equivalent tothe GS-4 level OR 4yrs of education above the high school level. Specialized experience is experience gained that is related to the position to be filled and which has equipped the candidate with particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position, and that is typically in or closely related to the work of the position.

You will be rated on the following Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Other characteristics (KSAOs) based on your application for this position: 1) Ability to use computer based programs to perform a multitude of duties. 2) Ability to perform administrative duties of a Service. 3) Demonstrated ability to organize work, establish priorities, meet deadlines, and organize the activities of an office, multitask, and follow administrative procedures. 4) Ability to communicate orally and in writing to develop and maintain effective working relationships with all levels of staff.
