Job Description
Physician (General Diagnostic Radiologist-PET-CT and MRI)

The physician filling this position will primarily serve as a general diagnostic radiologist, interpreting each of the different types of radiology examinations that are covered by the Diagnostic Radiology Section. Those examinations currently include radiography, ultrasonography, computed tomography, MRI, fluoroscopy, mammography and nuclear medicine exams. However, the scope of such examinations has the potential to increase or change over the radiologist's career. The radiologist maintains professional responsibility to remain proficient in all evolving advances in their field, commensurate with their position as a general radiologist. The physician filling this position should have particular expertise in the interpretation of PET-CT and MRI.

The Radiologist will also actively participate in the non-clinical activities that are expected of Radiologists. These include, but are not limited to, service as a Modality Champion, running interdisciplinary tumor boards, educating technologists, residents, medical students and fellows, and participating in hospital committees.

The radiologistwill participate in the Diagnostic Radiology call pool, as designated by departmental policies. The Radiologist must maintain proficiency and capacity to perform and interpret all forms of examinations that might be performed on call.

Work Schedule: 8 hour shifts, to include early morning, evening hours and weekends as the need arises.

Basic Requirements:
  • Citizenship of the United States. Noncitizens may be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with Department of Veterans Affairs policy.
  • Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in medicine or osteopathic medicine. The degree must have been obtained from one of the schools approved by the Department of Veterans Affairs for the year in which the course of study was completed.
  • Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia.
  • Completion of a first-year residency, or its equivalent, approved by the Department of Veterans Affairs for the year in which it was completed.
  • Proficiency in spoken and written English.
  • Physical requirements outlined below.

Preferred Experience: Expertise in the interpretation of PET-CT and MRI.


Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religions; spiritual; community; student; social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Physical Requirements:

Light lifting (under 15 pounds),light carrying (under 15 pounds), use of fingers, both hands required,near vision correctable to 13" to 16" to Jaeger 1 to 4, far vision correctable in one eye to 20/20, hearing (aid permitted), both eyes required,emotional/mental stability, working inside, working closely with others, working alone.
