Position Specific Description NextEra Energy Seabrook Electrician I Job Description and Physical / Mental Job Duties General Job Description: Performs installations, inspections, repairs, surveillances, and preventative and corrective maintenance on Station electrical equipment, systems and structures as necessary to ensure the safe, efficient and dependable operation of the Station. Performs these activities on individual components as well as complex systems, equipment and structures. Typical Duties and Responsibilities: * Maintains thorough working knowledge of, and performs work activities according to established practices, procedures, and codes. * Performs the daily activities of the Electrical Maintenance Department, as assigned, which includes installation, inspection, replacement, adjustment and repair of Station equipment, systems, buildings and facilities. * Performs electrical preventive maintenance, lubrication, surveillance, and equipment calibration programs. * Prepares and maintains related reports, logs, records and historical data, as assigned. * Recommends changes to existing maintenance methods, procedures, and applications to improve overall Station activities. * Keeps the Electrical Supervisor informed of any noted conditions or situations within the Electrical Maintenance Department which could affect the safe and efficient operation of the facility. * Assists in maintaining necessary tools, equipment, and spare parts associated with the maintenance of the Station electrical systems. * Participates in and successfully completes plant and Electrical Maintenance Department training; prepares for advancement by continued participation in such programs. * Maintains thorough working knowledge of the Station's tagging rules; qualifies to perform tagging. * Assists Mechanics and I&C Technicians in performing installations, modifications, repairs, and maintenance of Station mechanical equipment, as necessary. * Performs these and other duties on rotating or maintenance shifts as assigned by Electrical Maintenance Department supervision. * Operates and maintains a variety of equipment unique to craft specialization. * Prepares and/or assists in the preparation of detailed programs and procedures for the Electrical Maintenance Department as assigned. * Recommends to the Electrical Supervisor the termination of any maintenance activity which is not being carried out in accordance with applicable procedures, specifications, regulations, requirements or accepted practices. * Recommends to the Electrical Supervisor the termination of any activity which jeopardizes personnel safety, equipment safety or continued power generation. * Required to be a member of the Seabrook Station Emergency Response Organization (ERO), when assigned, and to adhere to all related requirements specified in the Seabrook Station Radiological Emergency Plan. These requirements include, but are not limited to, maintaining applicable ERO position qualifications, participation in drills and exercises, and responding to an actual emergency (including radiological). * Required to participate in major outages, when assigned, by performing a designated outage position, and maintaining required training qualifications. An outage assignment may involve shiftwork and/or working extended hours outside of normal schedule. * Performs other duties and responsibilities as required. Qualifications: Two year Associates degree in related field and/or experience. Three to four years in industrial electrical maintenance or successful completion of U.S. Navy Nuclear Power program; at least two years must be commercial nuclear power plant electrical maintenance experience. Industrial electrical maintenance experience shall include inspection, testing, replacement, adjustment, and repair of electrical components in industrial process systems. (Reference ANSI/ANS 3.1-1993) Skills and Knowledge: Demonstrated willingness to report and contribute to the resolution of employee concerns, and a willingness to contribute to a work environment supportive of positive, honest, and open exchange of ideas on the part of self and others. Demonstrated ability to perform electrical maintenance activities under minimal supervision. Demonstrated ability to read, interpret, and utilize basic and sophisticated electrical drawings and schematics. Demonstrated ability to communicate orally and in writing in a clear, legible, concise manner. Working knowledge of electrical control circuits, troubleshooting techniques, and electrical safety measures. Equipment Proficiency: Demonstrated ability to use and operate basic electrical measuring and test equipment. Special Working Conditions: Frequent access to the operating nuclear plant with its noise, heat, humidity, and radioactive environment as well as to external climatic conditions; frequently works in confined spaces including tanks, condensers, and heat exchangers subject to extremes in temperatures. May be required to work on a rotating shift schedule, work overtime, and be called in on short notice. Ability to achieve Radworker qualification and to obtain and maintain unescorted access into the Radiologically Controlled Area (RCA) as needed. Ability to obtain and maintain unescorted access into the Protected Area. Licenses/Certificates: None. Aptitude Testing: Successful completion of the Edison Electric Institute (EEI) Power Plant Maintenance Selection System (MASS) aptitude test required. Other: Position assumes a special assignment during refueling outages and an emergency preparedness role. The position requires that within 6-12 months from hire date, the employee assumes an Emergency Response Team position. Accordingly, once the employee assumes the Emergency Response Team position, they are required to report for duty at the assigned emergency station within 50 minutes of the site’s emergency activation. NextEra Energy Seabrook The following is a list of physical and mental job duties of which an Electrician must possess the physical ability, stamina, mental acuity and mental health to: * Perform job duties in environments that contain equipment capable of producing potentially large levels of electromagnetic interference (EMI) daily. * Climb and descend approximately 75 steps periodically. * Walk a minimum of approximately one-quarter mile two times or more per day. * Transport a ladder a distance of up to fifty feet, with assistance if necessary. * Climb a ladder (e.g., vertical ladders, extension ladders, etc.) up to 50 feet in height. * Climb, maneuver, balance and work on scaffolding (up to 75 feet). * Open and close doors, make visual examinations, climb over pipes, climb over ledges, and maneuver around equipment. * Dismantle, disassemble, adjust and repair plant equipment. * Transport and/or lift approximately 50 pounds of tools and/or materials. * Operate hand tools, pneumatic tools, hydraulic tools, hoists, test instruments, plant cranes, forklifts, and make repairs on faulty pneumatic, hydraulic, or mechanical machinery. * Visually observe electrical devices in operation and listen to their sounds to locate malfunctions and their causes. * Repair and replace recording and indicator equipment. * Diagnose, install, replace, or repair damaged/broken electrical, electronic, and/or power supply equipment (relays, switches, position sensing devices, motors, transformers, circuit boards, bearings, and transmission parts). * Diagnose and test defective equipment using voltmeters, ammeters, and related electrical testing apparatus. * Work in confined spaces while in protective clothing. * Manipulate, install, repair, or connect power supply cables, wires, or conduits on: valves, pumps, compressors, heat exchangers, turbines, generators, fans, lighting, feedwater heaters, pipe systems, motors, and condensors that supply fuel, lubricants, air, and auxiliary power for turbines, generators, boilers, and/or other power generating plant machinery. * Take readings, operate, and perform calculations using precision instruments. * Work on or near energized electrical components. * Balance, squat, bend, and/or reach in order to perform given tasks. * Cope with varying degrees of heat. * Read and comprehend diagrams, blueprints, schematics, plant procedures, manufacturer specifications, and operating manuals. * Clean using chemicals, lubricants, caustic/acids, or industrial cleaners. * Take readings, operate, and perform calculations using precision instruments. * Communicate the status of plant equipment with other plant personnel using radios, two-way radios, pagers, telephones, computers, and face-to-face conversation. * Log and maintain accurate handwritten activities of tasks related to specific plant work orders. * Perform work on any one of three shifts (day, evening, night) at the direction of supervision. * Obtain and maintain annual re-qualification of Radiation Controlled Area Training. This requires up to five hours of classroom instructions, testing, and physically dressing in protective clothing. * Obtain and maintain annual re-qualification of Respirator Training. This requires classroom instruction, a physical exercise of putting on a respirator mask, then moving in place in order to produce measurable respirations. * Attend qualification and continuing education classes.
