Job Description
Electrician Supervisor

As theElectrician Supervisor, assigned to the Facilities Management Service, your duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Serves as first-line supervisor, including the following duties: approves leave, monitors time and attendance, performance standards, training needs, and recommends promotions and discipline.
  • Plans work schedules, orders repair parts, materials and supplies in a timely manner, and sequences operations for work order completion.
  • Establishes work priorities and deadlines for electrical maintenance and projects.
  • Organizes manpower, time, and resources throughout multiple simultaneous projects.
  • Assigns projects and tasks to be performed and provides technical direction, including explaining requirements, methods, or procedures to be used in accomplishing the work.
  • Observes work in progress to anticipate and resolve problems and inspects completed work for quality and to ensure it meets work order requirements.
  • Serves as a Contracting Officer's Representative (COR) on projects as required.
  • Suspends daily work plans in order to address emerging and unscheduled priorities.
  • Manages and coordinates the work of the unit supervised with other shop supervisors (Plumbing/Mechanical, HVAC, Projects, and Utilities).
  • Establishes work priorities and deadlines for maintenance or repair.
  • Manages and prioritize multiple requirements simultaneously in multiple locations as required and effectively organizes manpower to accomplish those requirements.

Work Schedule:Monday - Friday, 7:30 AM to 4:00 PM, and additional hours as needed

Your background must demonstrate experience in a variety of repairs on electrical systems.

EXPERIENCE: A specific length of training and experience is not required, but you must show evidence of training or experience of sufficient scope and quality of your ability to do the work of this position. Evidencewhich demonstrates you possess the knowledge, skills, and ability to perform the duties of this position must be supported by detailed descriptions of such on your resume or OF-612.Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Qualification Standard Handbook X-118C ( www.opm.gov/qualifications/x-118c ).

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religions; spiritual; community; student; social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

SCREEN-OUT ELEMENTS: Your qualifications will first be evaluated against the prescribed screen out elements, which usually appears as question 1 in the on-line questionnaire. Those applicants who appear to possess at least the minimal acceptable qualification requirement are considered for further rating; those who do not are rated ineligible and are eliminated. The potential eligibles are then rated against the remainder of the questions. The screen-out elements for this positionare:

PHYSICAL EFFORT/REQUIREMENTS:The incumbent works from ladders, scaffolding, and hydraulic platforms. Incumbent often works in portions of the utility systems requiring attention that are cramped, dirty, and hard to reach. Work often requires prolonged crouching, standing, stooping or kneeling, climbing, and working in uncomfortable positions. Incumbent frequently lifts or carries tools, equipment, ladders, scaffolding, parts, and supplies up to 50 pounds. Occasionally, incumbent will be required to lift and carry items weighing over 50 pounds. Incumbent may be exposed to fumes, loud noises, saw dust, and other environmental hazards.

Influenza Prevention Program Statement : Participation in the seasonal influenza program is a condition of employment and a requirement for all Department of Veterans Affairs Health Care Personnel (HCP). HCP are individuals who, during the influenza season, work in VHA locations where patients receive care or who come into contact with VA patients as part of their duties. VHA locations include, but are not limited to, VA hospitals and associated clinics, community living centers (CLCs), community-based outpatient clinics (CBOCs), domiciliary units, Vet centers and VA-leased facilities. HCP include all VA licensed and unlicensed, clinical and administrative, paid and unpaid, full- and part-time employees, intermittent employees, fee basis employees, VA contractors, students, researchers, volunteers, and trainees who work at these facilities.

WORKING CONDITIONS:Work is performed in all area of the hospital environment, inside and outside. Work is often dirty, dusty, and greasy. The incumbent is subjected to such hazardous conditions as injury from electrocution, burns, injury from power driven tools, falling from scaffolds and ladders, temperature extremes, noise, and bad weather conditions.Incumbent is frequently exposed to the possibilities of cuts, bruises, scratches, burns, and broken bones. Incumbent is subject to asbestos exposure and chemical which can cause burns or irritation to the skin. Some duties may require the incumbent to wear protective equipment and clothing that is heavy to uncomfortable.

Position may require incumbent to work beyond regular tour of duty, including but not limited to: Weekends, Holidays, and hours before or after regular duty.
