Mail Clerk

The West Texas VA Health Care System (WTVAHCS) is currently accepting applications for a full time permanent Mail Clerk assigned to Logistics Service, at the George H. O'Brien Jr. VA Medical Center in Big Spring, Texas. The position functions as a Metered Mail, FedEx Clerk, and Duplicating Equipment Operator. Incumbent receives all facility mail from external sources requiring incumbent receipt. Incumbent is responsible for the control, safety, timely and accurate delivery of the mail within the facility. Incumbent receives and separates facility internal mail for redistribution within the facility. Sorts mail for internal distribution by mail routing symbol and /or mail delivery point (MOP). Incumbent picks up and delivers mail to all delivery points in the facility. Incumbent sets up, operates, adjusts, and monitors the operation of single or multiple function equipment such as copiers, duplicators, mail processing machines, etc. Sets priorities on all reproduction requests in order to meet the needs of the medical center. Ensures that all material having to be collated and stapled is done properly. Incumbent ensures distribution has been accomplished according to requests; performs maintenance as necessary on all equipment to ensure proper operating conditions.

Minimum Requirements for the GS-4: Candidates must have one full year of experience at the GS-3 level OR two full years of education beyond the high school level.

You will be rated on the following Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Other characteristics (KSAOs) based on your application for this position:

1. Ability to complete mail work.
2. Ability to complete reproduction work.
3. Ability to communicate orally and maintain effective working relationship with all levels of staff.

Physical Requirements: Work is physical. May involve considerable walking, standing, bending, lifting and carrying of bulky boxes and other material, usually not to exceed 50 pounds. Requires pushing carts for a long period of time. Selections will be required to pass a physical exam.

Time-in-grade: Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements. For a GS-4 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-3 level.
