Job Description
Physician (Psychiatrist, Director, Mental Health for Santa Rosa Community Based Outpatient Clinic)

This position serves as the Director of Mental Health (MH) of the Community Based Outpatient Clinic (CBOC) in Santa Rosa and reports directly to the Associate Chief of CBOC MH. The Mental Health Director of Santa Rosa is responsible for the administrative management of various areas of mental health service at the Santa Rosa CBOC.

In collaboration with the other VA Mental Health and CBOC leadership, CBOC staff, and relevant VA staff system-wide, the Mental Health Director of Santa Rosa works to ensure that targeted goals and priorities for the MH Service at the Santa Rosa CBOC are established and met. The incumbent contributes to strategic planning for the provision of mental health services; makes recommendations for mental health program development; participates in mental health staff recruitment and retention; and serves as a liaison between the Santa Rosa CBOC and Mental Health leadership, including the Associate Chief of Staff (ACOS) for MH. The Mental Health Director of Santa Rosa is skilled in assessing qualifications and abilities of current and prospective employees; effective in maintaining interpersonal relationships, including conflict resolution; and has the demonstrated ability to work across disciplines, with interdisciplinary team members, supervisors, Mental Health leadership, and with local and national VA and non-VA partners. The Mental Health Director of Santa Rosa actively contributes to program development internally and with the development of community partnerships.

As a mental health provider, the Mental Health Director of Santa Rosa is responsible for the direct clinical care of patients and is responsible for direct assessment, the provision of psychotherapy, in-service training, contributing mental health expertise in evaluating and developing treatment plans for individual patients, research, and other services typically provided by mental health personnel; the incumbent may also serve as a consultative member to different therapeutic teams at the Santa Rosa CBOC. This position requires close coordination with health care system physicians, consulting psychiatrists, physician extenders, social workers, psychologists, nurses and other technical/professional staff to ensure proper evaluation procedures, innovative treatment options, cost effective services and a continuum of care for referred veterans

Work Schedule: Full-time, Monday-Friday, 8:00am - 4:30 pm (work schedule may be negotiable)

Basic Requirements:
  • Citizenship of the United States. Noncitizens may be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with Department of Veterans Affairs policy.
  • Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in medicine or osteopathic medicine. The degree must have been obtained from one of the schools approved by the Department of Veterans Affairs for the year in which the course of study was completed.
  • Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia.
  • Completion of a first-year residency, or its equivalent, approved by the Department of Veterans Affairs for the year in which it was completed.
  • Proficiency in spoken and written English.

*Boardcertification/eligibility in psychiatry

*Administrative experience.

You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Physical Requirements: Requires lifting 15-44 pounds; pushing (approx. 2 hours); reaching above shoulder; use of fingers and both hands; walking and standing from 3-5 hours and kneeling. Ability for rapid mental and muscular coordination simultaneously. Must have depth perception and ability to distinguish basic colors and shades of colors. Hearing aid is permitted.
