Career Counselor (6861)|
Southern Illinois University Edwardsville (SIUE) is seeking an experienced Career Counselor to work in the university’s Career Development Center. The Career Counselor will advise individual students and alumni in various phases of the career development process and assist with marketing strategies to enhance student involvement with the Career Development Center. Additionally, the Career Counselor will conduct career development workshops and present career development and planning information for classes and student organizations.
Other duties may include but are not limited to:
-Work cooperatively with all SIUE constituencies (e.g. faculty, staff, students, alumni, student organizations, etc.) to foster mutually regarding relationships.
-Administer and interpret career assessments (specifically the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator, Do What You Are, Strong Interest Inventory, and Sokanu) to students and alumni, both individually and in a classroom setting.
-Provide assistance to students with identifying and overcoming barriers to selecting major, determining career direction, and successfully completing college.
-Instruct students in job-seeking-skills activities including resume and cover letter writing, networking, interviewing, social media, and effective job-search strategies.
-Advise students on requirements for cooperative education/internship program.
-Assist with career fairs held at the SIUE campus.
-Serve on various university committees.
-Develop print and electronic materials on career-related topics for distribution to students.
-Conduct research on career trends to develop programs, presentations and reports for the Career Development Center.
Further duties and responsibilities may be assigned in support of the center’s mission and goals.

Qualifications & Requirements
Minimum Acceptable Qualifications:
-Master's degree in counseling, college student personnel, psychology by January 2018. Course work should include foundations of psychological measurements and the measurement of interest and personality.
- One-three years' of experience with career counseling, especially in higher education
- National certification in administering and interpreting the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator
- Experience working with diverse populations
- Interest in working with students with disabilities and student veterans
- Demonstrated experience with one-on-one unsupervised career planning appointments
- Demonstrated experience writing, critiquing, and reviewing student resumes
- Ability to present in large and small group settings
- Event planning or project management experience in career services
- Familiarity with Career Services databases (Interfase, Handshake, Simplicity)
- Ability to create classroom presentations on career related topics using Power Point or other media
