The SIUE East St. Louis Center is seeking to fill a new opening for a Coordinator, Educational Advisor/Instructor for the TRIO Upward Bound Program to teach in one or more of the following content areas: mathematics, humanities, science, and social sciences. The center manages four Trio Upward Bound Program grants that serve 275 high school students from School District 189, Cahokia, SIUE East St. Louis Charter, Brooklyn and Madison.
Upward Bound is a federally funded college preparatory program for students in middle and high school. The purpose of these programs is to increase the likelihood that low-income first generation college students will graduate from high school and enroll in post-secondary education.
The new Coordinator, Educational Advisor/Instructor will teach classes and provide rigorous and highly-engaging instruction in core subjects in individual, small group, and classroom settings both during and after-school. He or she will prepare and develop instructional materials, including weekly lesson plans that meet the State's (National) Learning Standards, and support the goals and mission of the home school.
Additional duties will include:
-Prepare students for assessments and provide career awareness, motivation, and skills development through project-based differentiated learning activities for students in the assigned subject areas.
-Participate in, complete, monitor and evaluate Personalized Education Plans as needed by individual students based on assessments, grades and content expertise.
-Conduct tutoring, project-based units, and research with students.
-Analyze and implement results of student academic performance data to plan individualized academic interventions for the current and next academic term.
-Maintain GPA and overall academic performance records, and perform credit checks on all program participants.
-Assist program participants with completion of post-secondary education requirements.
-Supervise students during all program activities and in classroom settings, whereby promoting and maintaining discipline in a positive, educational whereby promoting and maintaining discipline in a positive, educational climate.
Further duties and responsibilities may be assigned in support of the department’s mission and goals.

Qualifications & Requirements
Minimum Acceptable Qualifications:
-Bachelor's degree in appropriate academic discipline (Science, Mathematics, Reading, English, Foreign Language).
-Teaching Certification in subject area taught.
-Minimum of two years' prior teaching experience, preferably in urban high school classroom.
-Excellent written and verbal communication skills are required for this position.
-Possess a working knowledge of instructional tools, including technology used in classroom setting.
-Experience working in related educational or other programs for disadvantaged youth with a demonstrated, measurable track record of success.
-Experience working for educational programs that address the needs of low-income, first generation disadvantaged youth.
-Sensitivity in working with minority and disadvantaged students.
-Computer knowledge and experience with software applications for programs related to TRIO.
Master's degree in subject area preferred
