Senior Building Engineer-LIS Tech III

JOB SUMMARY  


Under general supervision, calibrate, maintain and perform minor repairs for scientific instrumentation such as:  liquid chromatography systems, gas chromatographs, spectrophotometers, and laboratory data acquisition systems.

 
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSBILITIES

Disassembles, inspects, cleans, repairs, calibrates, tests, and performs periodic maintenance of specialty equipment, systems and controls.

 

Operates such electronic test equipment as multimeters, frequency generators and counters, galvanometers, digital logic probes and oscilloscopes.

 

Inspects, evaluates and determines necessary modification, performs complex repairs or removal of instruments or devices needing overhaul during scheduled maintenance.

 

May troubleshoot/service or resolve problems while performing unscheduled work.

 

Records and reports abnormal function or out of tolerance conditions of equipment and initiates corrective action and documentation.

 

Locates part sources, estimates costs and prepares requisition

 

Reinstalls, tests, evaluates, calibrates, and maintains instruments or devices upon completion of repairs.

 

Documents daily record of inspection, maintenance activity, repair and other work performed within approved guidelines and procedures.

 

Communicates with customer staff and outside contractors in the calibration, repair and operation of equipment as necessary and coordinates with outside contractors regarding repairs covered by maintenance agreements.

 

Writes equipment, maintenance and calibration procedures.

 

Provides training and coaching to less experienced LIS Technicians

 

Complies with company policies and procedures and adheres to company standards.

 

Performs work in accordance with approved equipment, calibration, maintenance and safety procedures.

 
Performs other duties as required. 
 
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBLITIES

No formal supervisory responsibilities in this position. Provides informal assistance such as technical guidance, and/or training to coworkers. Coordinates and assigns tasks to co-workers within a work unit and/or project. 



QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE

Associates degree in scientific field of study preferred or equivalent related work experience.

 

One to Five years of experience in instrumentation and control or installing, calibrating, maintaining and repairing equipment or equivalent experience.

 

Requires specialist knowledge, training and experience related to analytical instrumentation to include selected technique groups such as HPLC, GC, Liquid Handling, Automation, Optical Systems, Biology and Chemistry Analyzers.

 

Demonstrated use and understanding of physical standards of mass, temperature, flow and pressure.

 

Required to be able to read and work from blueprints, schematic diagrams and specification manuals.

 

May require experience specific to the pharmaceutical research and development industry including the making of chemical standards using appropriate techniques for weighing, pipetting, mixing, diluting, and verifying concentrations.

 

May require an understanding of regulations, good manufacturing practices, and use of scientific notation.

 

CERTIFICATES and/or LICENSES


Must have appropriate license or certification where required by law.

 
COMMUNICATION SKILLS

Excellent written and verbal communication skills.  Strong organizational and analytical skills.  Ability to provide efficient, timely, reliable and courteous service to customers.  Ability to effectively present information. 

 
FINANCIAL KNOWLEDGE

Ability to calculate simple figures such as percentages. preparing estimates, invoicing, perform accounts balancing and reconciling functions.

 
REASONING ABILITY

Ability to comprehend, analyze, and interpret documents.  Ability to solve problems involving several options in situations.  Requires intermediate analytical and basic quantitative skills. 

 

OTHER SKILLS and/or ABILITIES


Uses personal computer and / or PDA for work order system, email, ESS and training. Basic skills with Microsoft Office Outlook. Physical requirements include stooping, standing, walking, climbing stairs / ladders and ability to lift / carry heavy loads of 50 lbs. or more. 

 
Experience with Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
 
SCOPE OF RESPONSIBILITY

Decisions made with general understanding of procedures and company policies to achieve set results and deadlines. Errors in judgment may cause short-term impact to co-workers and supervisor.
