LABORATORYMULTIPLE OPENINGS ON 2ND (2-10:30P) OR 3RD (10P-6:30A) SHIFT
PART AND FULL TIME, SUPPORT HOURS
The Certified Phlebotomist/Processor collects blood and other specimens from patients by venipuncture, capillary puncture and other specimen collection techniques ensuring all safety policies and specimen collection/patient identification and specimen labeling procedures are followed. The position is also responsible for transporting specimens to the proper destination per department guidelines. The Certified Phlebotomist may perform EKG testing, collections and recollections on any patient for any location of the facility including the hospital, outpatient setting, nursing homes and outreach areas as needed. The Certified Phlebotomist is able to orient students and new employees, and performs redraws on difficult patients.
Other duties and support functions for the Laboratory Department may be required as needed, such as; accurate and timely processing of specimen: to and from the laboratory, within the Laboratory Information System (LIS), and to pertinent departments of the laboratory, all while following department guidelines. Processing and routing incoming telephone calls, scheduling appointments, maintaining files and records, distributing mail, and operating computerized Information Systems for patient registration, order entry and results retrieval. The position accepts and checks physician orders for laboratory testing and prints patient reports. The Certified Phlebotomist/Processor complies with standards regarding positive work environment, quality, customer satisfaction, and financial stewardship and may be assigned other duties as needed.
Qualifications & Requirements
Education: Minimum Level of Education Required: High School completion / GED. Phlebotomy training program completion preferred. Medical terminology courses helpful.
Licensure/Certification/Registration: Phlebotomy Certification through any of the following accreditation agencies: American Medical Technologists (AMT), American Society of Clinical Pathology (ASCP), National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT), National Healthcareer Association (NHA). Certification must be maintained during phlebotomist's employment.
Experience: Experience in healthcare or healthcare related training program and work with the public is preferred.
- Basic computer skills, medical terminology, telephone etiquette are needed
- Strong interpersonal skills necessary in order to effectively communicate with patients, physicians, physician offices, co-workers and other hospital personnel as well as other external customers either in person or via the telephone is required
- Organization, critical thinking, problem solving/reasoning ability, good independent judgement and initiative to effectively meet multiple and simultaneous demands are essential.
