Job Description
Electronic Industrial Controls Mechanic

The incumbent is responsible for the installation, maintenance and repair of all the Medical Center's Environmental Monitoring and Controls Systems (EMCS). This position is located in the Operations Department of Facilities Management Service.

Major Duties include:

This position Serves as an Electronic Industrial Controls Mechanic, leading others in the installation, troubleshooting and repair of new highly complex electronic EMCS and major modification of existing EMCS's. Position will have complete and total responsibility for the EMCS system hospital-wide. Additional duties Include: Troubleshoots and repairs new highly complex EMCS's, existing EMCS's, and modifies and/or improvises procedures to adapt EMCS's to various special purpose equipment; devises unique solutions for operational problems by constructing devices and making modifications to the equipment from sketches and verbal instructions; applies advanced electronic theory to make frequent technological changes in the system; has approval authority for all work related to the EMCS system including all sequencing, materials, components, and logic for the entire hospital complex; monitors trends to spot any possible problem areas and corrects deficiencies; reviews all projects pertaining to controls/HVAC specs and prints, and upon completion of projects checks commissioning reports; advises the project section on existing and new installations; lays out work to be accomplished which can include obtaining bids from contractors, pricing and availability of parts, hiring contractors and monitoring their work; works with HVAC Mechanics and trains as necessary; works with and trains Utility Plant Operators; and makes any modifications to control system as necessary.

Work Schedule: Full time 40 hours per week Monday through Friday.

Your background must demonstrate: Thorough knowledge of HVAC computer applications; ability to use ingenuity to solve operating and repair problems; must be able to verbally communicate control and air balance problems and discuss new ideas and innovations; and be able to test, calibrate, repair, or replace component parts of the Johnson Control Metasys Systems

EXPERIENCE: A specific length of training and experience is not required, but you must show evidence of training or experience of sufficient scope and quality of your ability to do the work of this position. Evidencewhich demonstrates you possess the knowledge, skills, and ability to perform the duties of this position must be supported by detailed descriptions of such on your resume or OF-612.Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Qualification Standard Handbook X-118C ( www.opm.gov/qualifications/x-118c ).

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religions; spiritual; community; student; social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

SCREEN-OUT ELEMENT: Your qualifications will first be evaluated against the prescribed screen out element, which usually appears as question 1 in the on-line questionnaire. Those applicants who appear to possess at least the minimal acceptable qualification requirement are considered for further rating; those who do not are rated ineligible and are eliminated. The potential eligibles are then rated against the remainder of the questions. The screen-out element for this position is Ability to do the job of a cemetery caretaker without more than normal supervision.

PHYSICAL EFFORT/REQUIREMENTS:?,Makes repairs and installations from ladders, scaffolding and platforms where the systems and equipment worked on are in hard-to-reach places. Requires standing, kneeling, crouching, stooping, bending, climbing and working in tiring and uncomfortable positions. Some eye hazard is present in working around control air devices. Normal eyesight and hearing are required.


Working Conditions:
Work is done inside and outside, and may be dirty, dusty, and greasy. At times may be required to work in inclement weather, in areas that are noisy, and have bad smelling fumes present and are at hot and cold temperature extremes. Occasionally, is exposed to the possibility of electrical shock, burns, cuts, bruises and broken bones; danger from refrigerant gasses and toxic fumes; eye hazards from gasses and control air.
