Job Description
Psychologist - Clinical Coordinator

This position is within the Domiciliary Residential Rehabilitation Treatment Program (DRRTP) at the Bath VA Medical Center, Bath,NY. The Clinical Coordinator provides daily coordination of patient care activities within the domiciliary. Duties include, but are notlimited to, the following:


Clinical Responsibilities:

  • Independently provides specialized psychological services at all levels of complexity for patients with PTSD, with or without comorbid substance use disorder(s), with service delivery to include intake evaluation, diagnostic assessments, psychotherapyand patient education.
  • Provides a full range of therapeutic interventions including individual therapy, group therapy, and psycho-education classes.
  • Best practices, practice guidelines and evidence-based treatment protocols are utilized to the extent feasible in all therapeuticinterventions.
  • Consults with medical center staff on a wide variety of patient care issues to include patient's decision-making capacityregarding health care.
  • Develops person-centered, culturally sensitive treatment plans to address mental health needs of patients.
  • Conducts evaluations to aid in the differential diagnosis of complex cases.
  • Complies with national and local performance measures, including timely health care screening and completion of clinicalreminders for all patients.
  • Completes all clinical charting and documentation required by the Medical Center or healthcare system, as appropriate.
  • Responds to patients request for release of records; return telephone calls, linking of services, and appropriate referrals asneeded in a timely fashion.
  • With permission from patient, collateral consultation with significant others/ support systems to aid in the facilitation ofpatients' treatment.


Administrative responsibilities:

  • Attends and participates in administrative and informational meetings held by the DRRTP Manager, Behavioral VA Health CareLine, Chief of Staff and Director.
  • Completes assigned Performance Improvement activities at the program, service line, and medical center level.
  • Attends regularly scheduled treatment team meetings to ensure efficiency and continuity of service delivery to specializedpatient population.
  • Ensures program in compliance with regulatory and accreditation requirements and standards
  • Works collaboratively with the DRRTP manager to develop programming, policy and procedure for the DRRTP.


Work Schedule: Monday - Friday, 7:30 am to 4:00 pm. The incumbent may be contacted after hours by staff for guidance or evaluation of patient care issues.


Functional Statement Title: Psychologist/Clinical Coordinator

BASIC REQUIREMENTS:

a. Citizenship Citizen of the United States.

b. Education

(1) Have a doctoral degreea graduate program in clinical psychology approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs andaccredited by the American Psychological Association (APA). The specialty area of the degree must be consistent with the assignment for which the applicant is to be employed.

AND

(2) GS-13 Two yearsof specialized experienceprovidingthe knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of this position at this grade level.

PLEASE NOTE:Work must be within the realm ofclinical psychology and must have been gained in a professional program concerned with health, rehabilitation, or vocational restoration.

c. Licensure. Hold a full, current, and unrestricted license to practice psychology at the doctoral level in a State, Territory, Commonwealth of the United States (e.g., Puerto Rico), or the District of Columbia.

d. English Language Proficiency Applicant must be proficient in spoken and written English as required by 38 U.S.C. 7402(d), and 7407 (d). [No person will be appointed under authority of 38 U.S.C. Chapter 73 or 74, to serve in a direct patient-care capacity who is not proficient in written and spoken English].

Required Experience: At least 2 years of experience as a professional psychologist, with at least one year equivalent to the GS-12 level in Federal Service.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religions; spiritual; community; student; social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
