Job Description
Housekeeping Aid Supervisor, WS-3566-02.

Incumbent will be designated as the Housekeeping Aid Supervisor for the Environmental Management Service (EMS). Incumbent supervises the activities of Housekeeping Aids, Laundry Workers, and Work Leaders that are engaged in the environmental services of the hospital. Duties include but are not limited to:

  • Conduct training classes for new employees.
  • The incumbent must determine necessary tools, supplies, and equipment required for assigned employees to perform work operations.
  • The incumbent will also serve as the facility's Move Coordinator, which entails working with the Space Committee to coordinate all medical center moves.
  • Supervisory duties include time, attendance, leave approvals, work assignments and placements, on the job training and instruction, performance evaluations, disciplinary actions, writing work schedules, and developing performance standards.
  • The incumbent may be required to fill in as needed in areas throughout the EMS.
  • Other duties as assigned

Work Schedule: Full-Time, second Shift: 3:30pm-Midnight or third Shift Midnight to 8:30am/rotating weekends and holidays.

WORKING CONDITIONS: The work is somewhat sedentary. The position does require walking, standing, bending, stretching, reaching, and recurring lifting of moderately heavy items such as boxes and books and other material. The work involves the usual risk and discomforts normally associated with an office. There is frequent exposure to personnel from clinical areas and to patients/families. The work area is generally well-heated and lighted.

SUPERVISORY CONTROLS OVER THE POSITION: Duties of the incumbent are performed under the general supervision of the Chief, Environmental Management Service.

EXPERIENCE: A specific length of training and experience is not required, but you must show evidence of training or experience of sufficient scope and quality of your ability to do the work of this position. Evidencewhich demonstrates you possess the knowledge, skills, and ability to perform the duties of this position must be supported by detailed descriptions of such on your resume or OF-612.Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Qualification Standard Handbook X-118C ( www.opm.gov/qualifications/x-118c ).

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religions; spiritual; community; student; social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

SCREEN-OUT ELEMENT: Your qualifications will first be evaluated against the prescribed screen out element. Those applicants who appear to possess at least the minimal acceptable qualification requirement are considered for further rating; those who do not are rated ineligible and are eliminated. The potential eligibles are then rated against the remainder of the questions. The screen-out element for this position is Ability to do the job of Housekeeping Supervisor without more than normal supervision.

JOB ELEMENTS: Those who meet the minimum level of experience and training for the screen-out element will then be evaluated in each of the following job elements:

  1. Knowledge in the prevention and control of infection.
  2. Ability to perform Supervisory Housekeeping duties.
  3. Knowledge of cleaning solutions and chemicals.
  4. Knowledge of cleaning tools and equipment.

5. Ability to communicate effectively.

    PHYSICAL EFFORT/REQUIREMENTS: The position requires performance of work which involves light physical effort, such as that involved in using vacuum cleaners and dry mops; continually standing, bending, stooping and reaching; frequently lifting and emptying waste baskets; frequently pushing carts loaded with waste; and lifting and carrying items weighing up to 40-50 pounds. Also performs work which involves moderate to heavy physical effort, such as required to move heavy equipment and furniture, i.e., heavy industrial vacuum cleaners, heavy duty floor scrubbers and buffers, couches, beds, etc.,

    WORKING CONDITIONS: Usually works indoors in areas which normally have adequate heat, light, and ventilation's. Will be exposed to vibration from heavy equipment and to skin irritations from strong cleaning solutions used in stripping floors, etc., as well as subject to cuts and bruises. Continually exposed to dust, dirt, and disagreeable odors, and is frequently exposed to organic material which may be contaminated and/or infectious and require special handling.
