Registered Nurse (Cath Lab)

Medicine Service is recruiting for 1Registered Nursevacancy at the following location:

1 position located within Medicine Service(Birmingham VAMC)

Major Duties:

The Birmingham VA Medical Center is actively recruiting for a Registered Nurse-Cath Labunder the Medicine Service Line. The individual will be responsiblefor participating in a wide variety of specialized invasive cardiovascular diagnostic and therapeutic procedures, in the Cardiac Catheterization/Electrophysiology Lab, that assist in the diagnosis, management, and treatment of cardiovascular disease. The Cardiac Catherization/EP Lab RN will be expected to:

Circulate, assist, and operate equipment for all of the various Cardiac Cath/EP Lab procedures.

Monitor patients during Cardiac Cath/EP procedures, including continuous ECG and hemodynamic monitoring, identification of cardiac arrhythmias, response to medications, titration of vasoactive IV medications, and treatments

Document patient data during procedures and maintains the procedure prolog.

Administers medications, including ACLS medications and anticoagulants utilizing all safety precautions.

Administers moderate sedation with appropriate patient monitoring, assessment, and documentation.

Tour: Full-Time: 8:00am-4:30pm, Monday-Fridaysand on call weekends, holidays,after hours duties-Cardiac Cath lab; must be able toreport to work within a 30 minutes timeframe.

Physical Requirements:The work performed requires potentially long periods of continued walking, standing, stooping, sitting, bending, pulling and pushing.

BASIC REQUIREMENTS:

* U.S. citizenship. Non-citizens may be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.

* Full unrestricted Licensure, Certification, or Registration required.

* Graduate of a school of professional nursing approved by the appropriate State-accrediting agency and accredited by one of the following accrediting bodies at the time the program was completed by the applicant: The National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission (NLNAC) or The Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE). In cases of graduates of foreign schools of professional nursing, possession of current, full, active and unrestricted registration will meet the requirement of graduation from an approved school of professional nursing. The completion of coursework equivalent to a nursing degree in a MSN Bridge Program that qualifies for professional nursing registration constitutes the completion of an approved course of study of professional nursing. Students should submit the certificate of professional nursing to sit for the NCLEX to the VA along with a copy of the MSN transcript. (Reference VA Handbook 5005, Appendix G6).

* Current, full, active, and unrestricted registration as a graduate professional nurse in a State, Territory or Commonwealth (i.e., Puerto Rico) of the United States, or the District of Columbia.

GRADE DETERMINATIONS:

Experience as a RN will be evaluated to determine if the experience is of an acceptable level of quality with regard to the following four dimensions of nursing: Practice, Professional Development, Collaboration and Scientific Inquiry. Each dimension of practice has criteria that demonstrate essential core competencies for VHA Nursing Personnel.

The criteria are as follows:

* Practice: practice, ethics and resource utilization;

* Professional Development: performance, education/career development;

* Collaboration; collaboration, collegiality;

* Scientific Inquiry: quality of care, research.

Physical Requirements: Satisfactory physical examination as determined by the Employee Health Unit upon appointment only. See VA Directive and Handbook 5019 (http://vaww1.va.gov/ohrm/HRLibrary/Dir-Policy.htm). Functional requirements include light lifting under 15 lbs, light carrying 15-44 lbs, walking and standing and standing for up to 8 hours, use of rapid mental and muscular coordination simultaneously, ability to read type written characters (glasses permitted), ability to hear the whispered voice (hearing aid permitted), repeated bending for up to 8 hours, etc.
