Job Description
Registered Nurse - 3B/Short Stay Rehab

This position is in the 3B/Short Stay Rehab department at the VA Medical Center in Bath, NY. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

* Demonstrates integration of bio psychosocial concepts, cognitive skills, and technically competent to practice in providing care to patients with simple or complex needs

* Demonstrates competency using the nursing process in providing care for patients

* Plans, implements and evaluates care based on age specific requirements of the patient

* Directs other selected individuals who provide care

* Uses quality improvement findings to guide and direct own practice

* Incorporates feedback regarding performance and interpersonal skills to enhance professional development

* Participates in the performance evaluation process

* Seeks knowledge and skills appropriate to the practice setting to improve performance

* Shares knowledge and skills with colleagues/others

* Assumes responsibility and accountability for individual nursing judgments and actions

* Acts as a patient advocate

* Participates effectively on teams to plan and manage care for patients

* Demonstrates awareness of research and its application to practice

* Plans and organizes care based on patient needs and provider competencies to assure safe, efficient, and cost-effective care

* Adheres to established policies, standards of care and standards of practice

* Provides direct nursing care

* Functions as team leader and charge nurse as assigned, under the supervision of the Nurse Manager or designee


Work Schedule:Full-time. Night shift; hours to be discussed at interview.

Salary- $49,284 - $85,710. Salary to be determined by a Professional Standards Board (Peer-to-peer review) based on applicants education and qualifications.

BASIC REQUIREMENTS:

* US Citizen

* Graduate of a school of professional nursing approved by the appropriate State-accrediting agency and accredited by one of the following accrediting bodies at the time the program was completed by the applicant: The National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission (NLNAC) or The Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE). OR

* Graduate of a school of professional nursing approved by the appropriate State-accrediting agency and accredited by one of the following accrediting bodies at the time the program was completed by the applicant: The National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission (NLNAC) or The Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE). OR

* Graduates of foreign schools of professional nursing, possession of current, full, active, and unrestricted registrationand the possession of a Certificate from the Commission on Graduates of Foreign Nursing Schools (CGFNS) will meet the requirement of graduation from an approved school of professional nursing.

* Must be proficient in spoken and written English.

* Must have a current, unrestricted license.


Preferred Qualifications:Basic Life Support Certification, Advanced Cardiac Life Support Certification, and Telemetry experience is preferred.


GRADE DETERMINATIONS:

* Nurse I Level I - An Associate Degree (ADN) or Diploma in Nursing, no experience.

* Nurse I Level II - An ADN or Diploma in Nursing and approximately 1 year of experience, or an ADN or Diploma in Nursing and a bachelor's degree in a related field and no experience; or a Bachelors of Science in Nursing (BSN) and no experience.

* Nurse I Level III - An ADN or Diploma in Nursing and approximately 2-3 years of experience, or an ADN or Diploma in Nursing and a bachelors degree in a related field and approximately 1-2 years of experience; or a BSN with approximately 1-2 years of experience, or a Master's degree in nursing (MSN) or related field with a BSN and no experience.

* Nurse II - A BSN with approximately 2-3 years of experience, or ADN or Diploma in Nursing and a bachelors degree in a related field and approximately 2-3 years experience or a Master's degree in nursing or related field with a BSN and approximately 1-2 years experience, or a Doctoral degree in nursing or meets basic requirements for appointment and has doctoral degree in a related field with no experience.

* Nurse III - Master's degree in nursing or related field with BSN and approximately 2-3 years experience or Doctoral degree in nursing or related field and approximately 2-3 years experience.
