Job Description
MEDICAL SUPPLY TECHNICIAN (Endoscope)

Some of the Primary Duties are:

- Receive a full range of reusable medical equipment from operating room, inpatient units, and clinics.
- Sort and disassemble instruments when necessary and independently determine appropriate method and or device for - - decontamination such as the ultrasonic cleaner, washer disinfector/sterilizer and or manual cleaning.
- Have basic principles of microbiology as they apply to medical supply operations, in order to determine the resistance of microorganisms to external destructive agents such as heat, chemicals, time, and pressure.
- Follow established policies and manufacturer instructions for reprocessing reusable medical equipment.
- Inspects instruments for cleanliness, damage, and utilizes recommended procedures for testing the functionality of instruments.
- Replaces damaged or missing instruments as needed.
- Maintains accurate written records of all equipment turn-ins and places work orders upon the direction of a supervisor.
- Properly arranges and assembles instrument(s) for sterilant access and aseptic presentation during sterile procedures.
- Packages single instruments, surgical trays and minor procedure trays using the appropriate packaging material or container.
- Places integrator in package or container and affixes indicator tape with correct name of instrument tray or single instrument.
- Perform daily sterilizer efficacy and verification tests and documents results.
- Selects appropriate sterilization device and cycle according to manufacturer instructions.
- Document on sterilizer recording envelope the location and name of tray(s) and single instrument that will be sterilized.
- Loads and Unloads sterilizer and observes package integrity and whether the sterilization process was achieved.

WORK SCHEDULE: Monday-Friday, 11:am AM to 7:30 PM

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: The employee may stand for long periods of time and be required to push carts weighing 75-500 pounds and lifting trays and packages weighing approximately 25 pounds. Dexterity is required for assembling medical equipment. The work environment of the position requires employee to alternate between a contaminated environment and a carefully controlled clean environment wearing special protective clothing and handling contaminated medical supplies

Time-in-Grade Restriction - Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS-5 gradein the past 52 weeks mustmeet time-in-grade requirements. The grade may have been in any occupation but must have been held in the Federal service. Applicants must ALSO meet minimum qualifications for referral.

Minimum Qualifications: To qualify at the GS-06 grade level.

Specialized experience: The applicant must have experience in reprocessing a variety of endoscopes, transducers, and probes. The applicant must possess knowledge of inspecting, leak testing, cleaning, preparing, high level disinfection or sterilization of endoscopes, transducers, and probes. The applicant must have knowledge operating automated endoscope reprocessors. The applicant possesses knowledge of the principles of infection control and microbiology as it relates to the day to day operations within the service.

Examples of qualifying specialized experience include work as an operating room technician, medical supply technician, or medical instrument technician. This experience must be equivalent to the GS-5 grade level in the Federal service.

Education:Graduate education or an internship meets the specialized experience required above the GS-5 only in those instanceswhere it is directlyto the work of the position. NOTE: Transcripts must be submitted with your application materials. Education cannot be credited without documentation.

You will be rated on the following Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Other characteristics (KSAOs) as part of the assessment questionnaire for this position:
- Knowledge and skill to perform duties encompassing the complete work cycle required to inspect, leak test, decontaminate, prepare, assemble, package, sterilize, disinfect, and issue endoscopes, transducers, probes, related instrumentation.

- Ability to operate medical equipment.
-Knowledge of aseptic principles and techniques, including sterile conditions.
- Ability to assemble and issue supplies.

- Administrative and Interpersonal Skills.
