Laundry Worker WG-2

This position involves duties in the laundry. Itinvolves processing of soiled laundry items and clean laundry items. Work may include: Repetitively sort bulk soiled laundry into prescribed classification lots by matching all garments and linens with correct symbols on bins. The incumbent will be subject to any other duties assigned by the Supervisory Laundry Worker.

Work Schedule:Monday - Friday 5:45am to 2:30pm and 8:00 am to 4:30pm

Saturday - Wednesday 6:45am to 3:30pm

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religions; spiritual; community; student; social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

SCREEN-OUT ELEMENT: Your qualifications will first be evaluated against the prescribed screen out element, which usually appears as question 1 in the on-line questionnaire. Those applicants who appear to possess at least the minimal acceptable qualification requirement are considered for further rating; those who do not are rated ineligible and are eliminated. The potential eligibles are then rated against the remainder of the questions.

The screen-out element for this position is: Having the experience performing the duties of a Laundry Worker under normalsupervision.

JOB ELEMENTS: Those who meet the minimum level of experience and trainingwill then be evaluated in each of the following elements:

(1) Store, shelve, and distribute hospital linens to appropriate locations.

(2) Work with soiled and contaminated laundry.

(3)Work on a flatwork ironer.

(4) Work with patient and patient/members in a laundry setting.

PHYSICAL EFFORT/REQUIREMENTS:The position requires performance of work where the incumbent is continuously engaged in physical, standing, walking, stooping, pulling, pushing, and reaching. Work is performed on concrete and tiled concrete floors. The incumbent will be involved in continuous rapid hand and arm movements. The incumbent frequently lifts items weighing up to 25 pounds, and occasionally may be required to lift items weighting over 50 pounds.

WORKING CONDITIONS: Usually works indoors in areas which normally have adequate heat, light, and ventilation's. Will be exposed to high levels of noise and hot, humid environments.Must work around steam and steam-heated machinery, and must be cautious to avoid steam burns. Duties also involve work on wet, slippery floor. Subject to handling soiled linens and uniforms, some of which may be contaminated, thus requiring wearing of protective clothing such as isolation gown, mask, gloves, etc. Must be able to work with patients, patient/members, work study employees, summer aid employees, housekeeping aids, and other persons assigned throughvarious training programs.
